WiMLDS Mentorship Program: Week-2
So this week, we dived a bit deeper into the preparation strategy and feedback from the last week’s preparation.
As discussed, I did try to diversify my resources in terms of learning vocab by using a word list, chrome extension and doing lots of questions. It did actually work and I was able to retain quite a few words which were becoming a big task otherwise and I and Ashima di decided to stick with this routine.
We also discussed how advanced maths can be improved by practising from the NCERT book of 9th and 10th standard. She also suggested that if I was facing trouble in any topic, then I can first do the in-book questions from Manhattan.
Apart from this, we discussed when could be the right time to sit for GRE and how much preparation does one need ultimately to score high. The answer to this is, whenever you feel comfortable. However, typically people study for 2–3 months before sitting.
TOEFL is an exam that one has to take apart from GRE. People often take this lightly and try to score just enough marks to sail their boat. My mentor intimated to me how this could be harmful if one is looking to be a TA or RA in their universities later on.
We ended the session by taking notes and I felt way better about my prep🥰
